I get writers block every three months and if you have me on your MSN list you may already know that this past couple days, I’ve had the worst case of it EVER. I had no problem coming up with topics, but I couldn’t write about them. Everything I tried to write turned into complete shit, and it took me a while to realize but eventually it hit me. I needed to cure it this time, cause time alone wouldn’t do it for me.
What I Did:
1. Stopped trying to write, and took a breather.
The first thing I did is stop trying to write, I figured why waste time trying to do something I knew wasn’t gonna happen. So I closed up shop and shut my laptop, got a jacket and took a long drive with one of my friends to the candy store she loves. I wanted to take a break from the internet for a little bit and just clear my mind and sorta evaluate my problem.
2. Got rid of the stress.
On my long drive it hit me, I stress out a lot and sometimes that stress turns into a sorta depression, and that was the cause of my block. So as soon as I got back home I finished all my home work and projects and even changed the oil on my car. I got rid of all the worries I could in order to get rid of all those subconscious thoughts. Because there’s no real instant cure I still needed to wait a little while before I got back to normal but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t do anything.
3. Worked in the back end.
Like I said earlier, only time will cure your writers block even if your stress free, so do something else. Instead of writing, I went around the net and promoted this place. I did some blog commenting and what not, but you can try to get more RSS subscribers, maybe start building links and traffic from forums, shit maybe even figure out how to monetize your blog better. Their are other ways you can do “back end” work for your blog, so do it.
Well, I know every one is different but you should use the same steps the next time you have a bad case of writers block.
1. Take a breather and access the problem.
2. Solve the problem.
3. Do something while you wait.
Have you had writers block before? What do you recommend doing about it?

Writers’ block is an inevitable part and parcel of blogging. If it happens, put it into draft whatever you’re writing into draft and walk away from it. Do something else other than writing and come back a few hours later. That usually helps…..

You’ve put some good suggestions down, these are also what I do
I suffered a bit of writers block when I came back from holidays after the Christmas break. What I did was so some search around other domaining blogs and gathered my ideas from there. But yeah, a few hours away from the internet does help you to freshen up your mind…plus the occasional coffee works wonders

Hahah dude, I was just planning to post about this as well, as I had a writers block recently too.
Like you said, doing things that are not related to writing helps. Even a night in the club helps, just to get all that crap out of your head.

@ Yan: I ended up with like 4 drafts by the time I gave up

@ Foresaken: That’s a pretty good idea, no better time to learn and prepare for future posts.
@TechZoomIn: lol, like I came up with a few ideas, one was given to me but either way, like you said it all ends up turning into a load of bull shit

Taking a break reduces the amount of pressure on you and thus you can let all your creativity out again.
Us writers (yes, we’re writers) need that every now and then. However, don’t expect inspiration to come by its own. Go find it!

@ Dan: lol, yeah i just had to write about it.
@ Ikki: Yeah, and taking frequent breaks would help me avoid this from happening again. And yeah I hate when people say go “take a walk you’ll be inspired” or some stupid crap, it’s not that easy.
Man, I love those pictures and images on your posts. Do you take them yourself and add the label layer?

@ Ajith: lol, your not the first one to ask me.
I go to flickr.com and I go to the “advanced search” page and check those three boxes at the bottom to make sure im using only images that are allowed.
I search a few different keywords, until I find the one I like the most. Then I drop it into photoshop, resize it to 610x a number to keep it proportionate. Then I drag and drop the overlay and change the text.
Their is my mini-post on finding images.
Lol dude a brilliant image. haha
Anyways, I think it’s a part and parcel of life.. everything has a phase in between where you just can’t seem to “do it”. Take some time off, and read other people (if they write lol).
Solid post!
And solid mini-post

I also face this prob. One solution to this is read lot of posts of different blogs and also comments. As you read a lot, you will get some idea for your next post.

Just getting away from blogging and doing something different should get the juices flowing. Sometimes you just need a break from it all.

@ Nihar: Honestly writers block isn’t when you have a lack of ideas. Thats a big misconception. Writers block is when you just can’t write about anything.
@ Rowell: Agreed
