That’s right, my car taught me something about blogging. It was two days ago, I had to change my engine oil before the weekend since I was at 3500 miles since the last time (500 miles over my normal). Because I didn’t want to put even more wear and tear on the car by adding another 500 miles over the weekend, I needed to change it. The only thing was that it was about 6 degrees Fahrenheit (-14.4 degrees Celsius) and with the wind chill it was probably below 0.
Long story short I went out in the freezing weather and I withstood the bone chilling winds to change my oil, because I knew I needed to to keep my car running long enough to turn a profit with my delivery job
This whole experience where my hands almost fell off taught me two very important things about blogging.
Never give up.
Somewhere between my nose nearly freezing and my hands becoming so numb that I could no longer feel them. I truly wanted to give up and call it quits.
This carries over into blogging cause I know a lot of people (including me) hit walls at some point and they get tempted to just call it quits. If their traffic drops they just wanna quit and sell the blog, well my advice to you is DON”T. You need to keep going and get back on track. You can break through the walls with the right mindset. (read my comment and Wei’s reply)
Keep up the maintenance.
If I just kept up on my oil changes, I would have changed it a week earlier when temperatures were above freezing. My whole ordeal could have been avoided completely.
How does this transcend into blogging? Well if you just keep up your promotion methods, link building and posting there would be no reason for your blog to fall. Your traffic will only go up and you would avoid “the wall” and intern your blog will live another day.
Whats your opinion on hitting walls and what not, would you just give up or keep going strong?

Hello Ardit!
I’m really glad you did not give up. And yes, this scenario is the same as blogging, because it shows that you were determined to do what you had to do, and you did not quit.
Klajdi Hena’s last blog post..Tips to make your blog stick out!
Thanks Klajdi, Yeah the same thing happens to me when blogging. The latest was when I got that really bad writers block.
Great thing you pushed through it! I would hate to see you go. You’ve got a good thing going.
Rowell Dionicio’s last blog post..Stop WordPress Comment Spam In Their Tracks!
Hey Ardit,
I did a phone interview with Rowell yesterday and we discussed not giving up. Like I said to Rowell, not giving up sounds so cliche and all the pro bloggers say it, but not many people actually listen.
I know so many people who have quit. It’s a real shame.
Good post, Ardit. Hope your hands have recovered!

@ Rowell: Yeah, that whole writers block ordeal I had hit this place pretty hard, but im pushing through it
@ Jamie: I usually push through all obstacles but some times it feels like it would be better off if you just quit. And my hands are better. Thanks.
p.s. I wrote this cause the only reason this blog isn’t listed on site point right now is cause of that simple oil change
Ugh… Car manteinance… A painful but necessary thing! I used to spend lots of money on a Grand Wagoneer I had some time ago. It was in a pretty good shape, I must say. You post made me think of it.
Everyone kept saying “Hey Héctor, sell that old car! Buy a new one, save your money!”. I didn’t. I kept working on it.
You’re right, mate. Consistency & perseverance, two powerful words we should keep in mind always!

Anyway you said it perfectly “Consistency & perseverance, two powerful words we should keep in mind always!”
He he good point. If we look at blogging from this side, then my dog has taught me also a lot. No matter what weather, how late or early it is, when the dog has to go it has to go.
Cheers,

Chris lol, yeah but how can that relate to blogging?
Hi dude,
Nice explanation.
You can relate almost every incident of your life to other.
Swastik’s last blog post..Send your product sales through the roof!
Haha. Great analogy. Of course, your ordeal could have been averted if you simply took your car to a garage. lol. Or simply changed your oil yourself in a heated garage.
But yeh… not giving up is key. I know of some many bloggers who get disheartened when their traffic spikes and then goes back to nothing. (Another great example or perseverance despite very good reasons to quit, is Cuil – the search engine. lol.)
Shirley’s last blog post..How Does Google Find Websites That Sell Links?
@ Swas: Thanks and yeah I know
@ Shirley: lol, thanks but you see im a “do it yourself” kind of guy , that’s like paying people to comment with your website
What your saying about people getting “disheartened” they need to go in with realistic expectations, If they want to avoid it that is
Ardit, you took a everyday life scenario and exemplified it in a blogging environment. The imagery that this post creates can really inspire everyone to stop thinking about quitting and start thinking about furthering their blogging career. Nice use of images and analogy to home in the two important points:
Never quit and be consistent.

Forsaken’s last blog post..Choosing a good niche topic for blogging
Man, I can’t tell you how much I understand you with this post. Although I’ve been blogging for 6 or 7 months, I’m still new because I quit a couple of months into it. I got discouraged with the dismal amount of traffic I was getting, reading about EVERYBODY but me making money, and the never ending avalanche of things to buy. After quitting, I remembered why I started blogging in the first place. I enjoy creating things. It would be awesome to make some money blogging but I’m going to first try and have fun, stay original, and be loyal to the readers who are loyal to me.
Glad I’m not the only one!

@ Foresaken: Thanks, it’s what I was going for when I wrote it. Because people (including me at times) need to just keep pushing on, and let nothing get in their way. Not even their own self.
@ T Edwards: Dude, I can only imagine where I would be if I wasn’t so easily discouraged. Sorry but im kinda glad to see that im not the only one who has this sorta thing happen to him.
