You just wrote an awesome post at your fairly new blog,I mean this thing is just perfect, and you know it’s something people will like.
But you just hit that publish button, so what happens now?
Do you just sit and wait for people to come? NO, as soon as that post hits your front page you need to run around screaming about it, on the net that is.
I use post by post promotion techniques here at blogict, which pretty much means I use active promotion methods here. Now it has it’s pros and cons which ill talk about later but for the most part it’s great for newer blogs like this one.
Here’s what I do:
1. Blog commenting
On 45+ blogs
I know everyone in the blogosphere is pushing the whole blog commenting thing on you, including me, but it’s just so easy. Commenting should be the 1st thing on everyone’s post by post promotion list. With every post I write I go to my list of 45+ blogs I like and comment at them. I always see a spike in traffic, ALWAYS.
Just some things to remember:
- Write GOOD comments, none of those “nice post” comments.
- Find blogs that use the commentluv plugin.
- Go back to your comment and check for a reply, and comment yet again.
2. Social bookmarking
is awesome
So many people underestimate the power of stumble upon, digg and all those sites. All you have to do is read this post by Darren and you will change your mind in a hot second. Sure your gonna have to submit your site to a bunch of sites but the potential is amazing
3. Social networks
Are so easy
If your already using sites like Facebook, MyBlogLog and the ever popular Twitter then leverage them for traffic. If you have twitter just tweet about your new post. If you can pull this off in a non spammy way your golden.
4. Leverage them forums
There traffic goldmines
I don’t do this as much as I would like to but if used right you can get traffic from forums. It’s pretty simple, if you check out the last post on pulling traffic from forums, you’ll see how to get your start at the forums. Then all you have to do is give an excerpt and start a conversation in the thread and your good to go.
The Pros
Of post by post promotion
1. Brings in a bunch of traffic each and every post.
2. Can bring in new readers each post.
3. Will slowly build your reputation.
4. Can bring in more
The Cons
Of post by post promotion
1. It’s time consuming.
2. Needs to be done each and every post until your very well established or change up your methods.
So what do you think of post by post blog promotion? What do you do for promotion?

Great tips. Blog commenting is probably the easiest way to bring in visitors. With social bookmarking/networking sites, you need to have a significant following before you can successfully promote an article. And when attempting to do it in forums, you can appear spammy if you don’t do it right.

I like the point about social bookmarking, so true.
Many people just think that Social Bookmarketing isn’t the thing to do. Oh dear, these people are so wrong !
Great post mate !

@ Shirly: Yeah but if you can pull off commenting and non spammy forum stuff you can may enough diggs to hit the front page.
@ Chris: Yeah too many people think it’s useless.
@ TechZoomIn: Yeah most of my list consists of sites where the owners come here and drop me a message.
Promotion and Marketing are probably the most tedious task for a blogger. Wordpress should include an automatic promotion plugin hehe

Yeah, I actually hate it, and if you could make a plugin like that I would no joke pay $1000 for it.
They should never be considered “cons” but simply a part of daily work if you’re serious.
Dennis Edell’s last blog post..Banners Ads or Text Links?
Yeah your right dennis but their just some things to think about before you use this meathod. Not every one has a few hours a day to put to promotion…
The biggest thing to think about – without promotion, you have no business. Not every one can do everything everyday, sure. But you need a little something on a regular type basis.
Dennis Edell’s last blog post..Banners Ads or Text Links?
I have agree with that, you need promotion, it’s just that some techniques are better than others for some.
Great plan! I must be underestimating social bookmarking but I guess I should start doing it. Big part of my promotion is from trying to provide a higher quality comment on blog posts.

Well you seem to be pretty good with stumble upon so your sorta on the right track. Anyway, yeah your everywhere commenting.
p.s. Your blog wont open up here
haha I guess you can say that I like to read more than write. I’ve been more of an implementer so moving to this blogging stage is still pretty new to me. There’s so much good stuff out there.

I usually post once per week in ABB and this gives me sufficient time to go around commenting on other blogs. So I would agree that promoting post by post is a good strategy. At the same time, you are building links not only for your homepage but also your internal pages. Solid post Ardit.

I have been trying to implement each and every one of these. By promoting each post I have seen PR for individual pages go up. It also helps when you use a good description of each post so, a reader will know if they are interested before they get there.
Bookmarking is something I have just really started doing more.
I think the hardest part is finding good post of interest to bookmark or comment on.
Sheryl Loch’s last blog post..Blog Co-Op Free Membership
Wow Sheryl, I am surprised to hear you say that. I find interesting posts everyday. Of course, I spend a lot of time online, so it is inevitable that I find something worth reading.
You might try ‘link lists’. Often a trusted blogger that you follow will link to great articles in other blogs. Or, when you have found an interesting article, scroll through the comments. If you find a well-written comment, it is likely that that author has a well-written blog that has interesting articles.
Good luck in your search.

Good post Ardit,
The power of Social Media, and the buzz it can create should never be under-estimated though so many people do it.

I definitely subscribe to the power of the comment. One area I’m lacking in is my forum activities…gotta pick up there. I just started with Twitter so I don’t know how that will work out for me.
So much to learn. So little time.

@ Wei: Yeah, A week is a good amount of time, I must say. Your right about that your building links and traffic to posts and your homepage this way.
@ Sheryl: I have seen the same thing happen here too. And your right about the whole description thing, if you use a catchy title and you comment on CommentLuv blogs you can do really well.
Glad you found this post interesting enough to comment on.
@ T Edwards: lol, im still new to twitter and I too have been slacking in the forums area.
